Course Details:

While the origins of classical guitar can be traced back to the 1600s, its influence continues to resonate in contemporary music worldwide. Rock icons like Randy Rhoads (Ozzy Osbourne) and Robby Krieger (The Doors), Brazilian maestros Heitor Villa-Lobos and Antonio Carlos Jobim, and numerous others have found inspiration in the rich tapestry of classical guitar repertoire. The Fundamentals of Classical Guitar course provides a structured, dynamic, and comprehensive entry point into the classical guitar realm, catering especially to students with backgrounds in pick-style electric and acoustic guitars.

The journey commences by offering a crucial perspective on the history of classical guitar, encompassing its artists and the regions where its music blossomed. Delve into the significant role classical guitar plays in shaping rock, folk, acoustic, and Latin American musical styles.

Progress to establish a solid foundation in executing arpeggios and scales for the picking hand, applying these techniques to music spanning the past four centuries. As skills evolve, the course introduces advanced techniques like harmonics, tremolo, and rasgueado, expanding your repertoire along the way.

Explore Brazilian rhythm guitar styles, flamenco, tango, and songs spanning folk, classical, and contemporary rock genres. Each weekly assignment includes a solo performance piece and a duet, to be performed to a pre-recorded backing track. Students can navigate a challenging yet manageable pace, allowing advanced players to tackle more intricate versions of weekly assignments for extra credit.

Course material is presented with extensive tab/notation, audio, and video, breaking down musical concepts into manageable components for enhanced mastery. By the course's conclusion, you'll have a foundational, operational repertoire for classical guitar, featuring etudes, methods, and solo works from the likes of Mauro Giuliani, Matteo Carcassi, Fernando Sor, Francisco Tárrega, Leo Brouwer, and many more.
